Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in McKinney, TX

Physician-supervised, medical-grade HBOT for recovery, performance, and longevity

Recovery, Performance, & Longevity with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in McKinney, TX

Hartwater Wellness is McKinney's dedicated wellness HBOT facility, offering medical-grade hyperbaric oxygen therapy in a hard-shell chamber at 1.3 to 2.0 ATA. Every protocol is physician-supervised and built around three outcomes patients come to us for: faster recovery, sharper cognitive performance, and the cellular benefits that show up across the longer arc of longevity. HBOT here is integrated with the rest of your care, not delivered as a one-off session.

What Is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a medical treatment modality that has been used clinically for over 350 years, with modern applications established since the 1950s. HBOT involves breathing 100% pure oxygen inside a pressurized chamber while atmospheric pressure is increased to therapeutic levels. The FDA recognizes 14 distinct medical indications for HBOT, and emerging research demonstrates compelling applications in longevity science, athletic performance, and neurological recovery.

How HBOT works

Hard-Shell vs. Soft-Shell HBOT: Why It Matters

Not every hyperbaric chamber is the same. Hard-shell chambers, like the one used at Hartwater Wellness, are FDA-cleared medical devices that can pressurize to 1.5 to 2.0 ATA (or higher) and deliver close to 100% oxygen, which is the pressure and oxygen concentration the clinical research is built on. Soft-shell chambers, which you'll see in spas and home setups, max out at around 1.3 ATA and deliver lower oxygen concentration. They have a place for very mild applications, but they cannot replicate the physiological effect of medical-grade HBOT. When you are evaluating providers, the chamber type is one of the first questions to ask.

HBOT AT HARTWATER WELLNESS: WHAT TO EXPECT

Your Consultation and Screening

Every HBOT plan at Hartwater starts with a physician consultation. We review your medical history, current medications, and the specific goals you're pursuing, then screen for contraindications: ear and sinus function, respiratory conditions, certain chemotherapies, and a few less common concerns. Most patients clear the screening easily and can start within a week. If anything in your history needs attention first, your provider will address it before chamber sessions begin and recommend a clear path forward.

Inside the Chamber: A Typical Session

Our top-of-the-line HBOT chamber offers a spacious environment with a reclining leather chair, flat screen TV with full streaming capability, and a build-in AC system. This is a very different experience from the traditional lay-down tube chambers used in hospital and wound-care settings. The experience is similar to flying in a first-class airline seat. You can also use your personal devices , such as phone, laptop, and earphones, and connect to wifi, so you can make the chamber a perfect remote office during your session.

Once inside the chamber, the descent phase takes a few minutes as pressure increases inside the chamber; you'll equalize your ears the same way you would on an airplane, and our team coaches you through it the first time. The treatment phase runs 60 to 90 minutes at therapeutic pressure between 1.3 and 2.0 ATA, while you breathe close to 100% oxygen. The ascent takes another few minutes, and most patients leave feeling alert and clear-headed.

Session Frequency and Treatment Protocols

Most HBOT protocols follow a two-phase pattern. The intensive phase runs 2 to 3 sessions per week for 2 to 3 weeks, which is where most patients notice the clearest changes. From there, a maintenance phase of 1 to 2 sessions per month sustains and extends the benefit. Recovery-focused protocols around injury or surgery are sometimes shorter and more intensive; longevity- and cognitive-focused protocols typically include longer maintenance. Your provider will recommend a specific cadence at your consultation based on your goals, and adjust it based on what we see in your first few sessions.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY?

HBOT is studied across a broad range of conditions, and the research base is strongest in a few specific areas. Below are the use cases our patients most often seek HBOT for at Hartwater. None of these are presented as cures; they reflect the evidence as it stands and the outcomes we work toward with our patients. Common treatment applications include:

Recovery & Regeneration

  • Musculoskeletal injuries

  • Post-surgical recovery

  • Chronic inflammation

  • Slow-healing tissues

Performance & Resilience

  • Athletic recovery

  • High-stress professional environments

  • Immune resilience

  • Fatigue and burnout recovery

Neurological & Cognitive Support

  • Brain fog and cognitive fatigue

  • Concussion recovery

  • Neurological inflammation

  • Long-term brain health optimization

Longevity & Cellular Health

  • Mitochondrial support

  • Reduction of oxidative stress

  • Vascular health

  • Biological age optimization protocols

Recovery From Injury, Surgery & Athletic Load

HBOT accelerates the body's natural recovery machinery. Pressurized oxygen increases tissue oxygenation, stimulates angiogenesis (new capillary growth), reduces inflammation, and supports collagen formation, all of which are central to tissue healing. Patients commonly use HBOT to recover from soft tissue injury, post-surgical swelling, training overload, and stubborn inflammation in joints and tendons. HBOT also pairs naturally with recovery-focused peptide protocols at Hartwater. Many elite athletes integrate HBOT into periodized training cycles: high-frequency sessions (3–4 per week) during intensive training blocks, then maintenance protocols during competition phases.

Inflammation & Chronic Conditions

Chronic, low-grade inflammation underlies a wide range of conditions, from joint pain to fatigue to metabolic resistance. HBOT has anti-inflammatory effects through multiple pathways: reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines, supporting tissue repair, and modulating immune function. For patients with inflammation-driven symptoms that are not responding to other interventions, an HBOT trial is often a reasonable next step under physician supervision.

Longevity & Anti-Aging Applications

A growing body of research is exploring HBOT as a longevity intervention. Studies have looked at its effects on telomere length, senescent cell clearance, mitochondrial function, and biological age markers. The mechanisms (oxygenation, inflammation control, mitochondrial support) overlap with what longevity medicine is trying to influence, and HBOT integrates naturally into a broader optimization plan that includes hormones, peptides, and lab-driven monitoring.

Cognitive Performance & Neurological Recovery

The brain is exquisitely oxygen-dependent, consuming 20% of the body's oxygen despite representing only 2% of body weight. When cerebral perfusion is suboptimal, from aging, post-viral syndrome, chronic inflammation, or prior traumatic brain injury, cognitive performance declines. Research on HBOT for cognitive performance and post-concussive symptoms has expanded considerably in recent years, with the strongest evidence in post-stroke recovery, traumatic brain injury, and post-COVID neurological symptoms. By increasing oxygen delivery to brain tissue and supporting mitochondrial function in neurons, HBOT may help with mental clarity, processing speed, focus, and fatigue. We see meaningful interest in this application from professionals, athletes recovering from concussions, and patients managing long-haul fatigue.

HBOT's most compelling applications in neurology involve restoring cerebral oxygen delivery and stimulating neuroplasticity. Research by Dr. Eshel Hadanny (2020) demonstrated that HBOT protocols improved cognitive function, reaction time, and information processing speed in healthy aging adults, with benefits persisting months after protocol completion. The mechanism involves several pathways: (1) increased oxygen delivery directly improves mitochondrial ATP production in brain cells, (2) HBOT stimulates BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor), a critical mediator of neuroplasticity and learning, (3) enhanced cerebral blood flow improves nutrient and metabolite clearance, and (4) reduced neuroinflammation promotes cognitive reserve.

HBOT AS PART OF YOUR LONGEVITY PROTOCOL

HBOT does its best work alongside the rest of your longevity care, not as a one-off session. Pressurized oxygen amplifies the recovery effect of peptides like BPC-157 and TB-500, where increased angiogenesis and tissue oxygenation accelerate the cellular healing those peptides initiate. HBOT also pairs naturally with NAD+ IV therapy, where the cellular energy substrate that NAD+ provides is matched with the oxygen environment that mitochondria need to use it. For patients on hormone therapy or peptide-based growth hormone optimization, HBOT supports the anabolic recovery window that hormones and peptides create. And as part of a longer longevity arc, HBOT integrates with quarterly lab monitoring and biological age testing so we can track whether the protocol is moving the markers we care about. Every HBOT plan at Hartwater is shaped by the rest of your goals, not delivered in isolation.

Biological Age Reversal & Telomere Science

One of the most exciting applications of HBOT in longevity medicine is its documented effect on cellular aging. Research published by Dr. Shai Efrati and colleagues at Tel Aviv University (2020) demonstrated that a structured 60-session HBOT protocol at 2.0 ATA produced unprecedented telomere elongation and senescent cell clearance in healthy aging adults. Telomeres are protective caps on DNA strands that shorten with each cell division; critically short telomeres trigger cellular senescence (aging) and are associated with age-related diseases. Efrati's study found that participants completing the protocol experienced telomere elongation of up to 20%, with senescent cell reduction of up to 37%. These metrics represent measurable biological age reversal, reducing cellular age while chronological age advances. The mechanism underlying this benefit involves repeated hypoxia-reoxygenation cycles activating AMPK (AMP-activated protein kinase) and NAD+-dependent pathways that regulate cellular aging. Additionally, increased systemic oxygen delivery reduces the oxidative stress burden on cells, while stimulated mitochondrial biogenesis improves cellular energy production. At Hartwater Wellness, we integrate HBOT protocols with advanced biological age scoring and comprehensive lab panels to track changes in aging biomarkers including telomere length, epigenetic age clocks, senescent cell markers, and inflammatory cytokines. This data-driven approach allows us to personalize longevity protocols and demonstrate measurable results to our clients.
